My friend Patrick young of Brampton and I have gone to Sault Ste Marie to fish for salmon for the past 5 years on the St Mary’s river in early September. We have really enjoyed the fishing in the area and over the years have met a number of nice people in the area. We normally camp in our tent close to where the fishing action is, but somewhat distant from the Sault itself. This year we where camped overlooking the river and about 25km from the nearest Tim’s store. We usually wake up about 6 am to get on the river at first light, as that is prime time for salmon action. We have had to wait until approximately noon to get our coffees when we drive to town for breakfast.
This year, we renewed acquaintances with Steve and Roger (locals from the area) who took their boat each day down the river from the Sault to the area where Pat and I fish. Each morning as we boated past them we would talk about the fishing for that day as well as what we had seen that (such as the foggy morning when 3 deer swam across the river right in front of us and then walked onto shore as we watched. We would see Steve and Roger about every ½ hour as we passed each other on the River. One day, we jokingly yelled out to them “how about a cup of coffee to wake us up tomorrow!” We never expected what was to follow.
Sure enough the next day (our last day of the trip this year) as we passed the two of them they called us over and said we have your coffee. Without even specifying they had bought Tim Hortons coffee of course. Not only that they had already landed their first salmon of the day. The coffee sure tasted good that day as we trolled up and down the river…..as we where camped so fare from town we had not been able to have our wake up brew any other day.
